Chewies Steam and Oyster bar in the heart of Kitsilano showcases many BC, Washington and east coast oysters. Their menu features fresh, local seafood being inspired by the delicious taste of New Orleans. The steam bar is unique to the city and guests experience the true art of steam cooking southern classics like Gumbo, Etouffee, and Creole Mussels to name only a few, in the open kitchen concept.
Located only 2 blocks from Kits beach with street and pay parking close by, the bar features a selection of award winning and locally brewed craft beer. The wine list reaches from Naramata, British Columbia to Mendosa, Argentina and all the way to Marlborough, New Zealand.
The first time I went into Chewies I had their Southern Fried Chicken. I have to say that this is the best southern fried I’ve had this side of New Orleans.
Now as much as I love my Chicken Fried there are still two other things that keep me coming back to Chewies everytime. Even the staff are impressed that I commute so far, but they have the best selection of fresh oysters, which includes my favorite (kushi), as well as a large selection of Brunch items on Sunday morning. Highly recommend the Crab Cake benny pictured below.
More reviews to come as we try every item on the menu!
